It’s time for the Daniel P. Troy Fall Classic and Clambake. Hosted by Representative Troy, the event will be at the Lost Nation Municipal Golf Course in Willoughby on Friday, October 1. This year’s outing will include the traditional Lake County 4-H raised sausage sandwich lunch, 18 holes of golf, plenty of food and drinks, and a catered clambake dinner in the covered course pavilion that evening. The four-person scramble begins with a 12:30 PM shotgun start. We’re certain that you don’t want to be left out of this fun and exciting event! ABOUT DANIEL P. TROY
Daniel P. Troy is superbly qualified for the office of State Representative, having served the citizens of Lake County in a consistently honest and effective manner at the city, county and state level. He is respected throughout the State of Ohio by members of both parties for his knowledgeable voice on state and local government issues.
He was elected to five terms as a Lake County Commissioner and served his last year in that office (2018) as the President of the County Commissioners Association of Ohio (CCAO). Prior to his election as Commissioner, he served seven terms in the Ohio House of Representatives, and was chairman of the Ohio House Ways and Means Committee, the Education Subcommittee of the House Finance and Appropriations Committee, and the Joint House-Senate Education Oversight Committee during that tenure.
As State Representative, Mr. Troy was instrumental in securing the passage of numerous pieces of major legislation, including Ohio’s Solid Waste Law, required Articulation and Course Transfer Agreements between Ohio’s two and four year institutions of higher education, the Lake Erie Phosphorous Reduction Act, and a major rewrite of Ohio’s Enterprise Zone and Tax Abatement Program. He was generally considered an expert on issues regarding budgeting and taxation, and received numerous awards for his legislative work in many subject areas.
He led efforts to secure over $20 million in state funding for Lakeland Community College’s Health Technologies, Student Center, Technical Education and Library buildings as well as obtaining $2 million for the restoration of the Mooreland Mansion on campus. He worked to establish and fund Ohio’s first elementary student Math and Science Center, benefiting Lake County’s 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders.
Prior to his service in the Ohio House, Mr. Troy was a city councilman and council president in the City of Willowick. As a County Commissioner, Mr. Troy served twice as Governing Board President of the Northeast Ohio Area‑Wide Coordinating Agency (NOACA), the MPO for the Greater Cleveland area. NOACA named him the recipient of the 2011 Walter F. Ehrnfelt Award for Outstanding Regional Cooperation. He was a member of the Board of Trustees of the County Commissioners Association of Ohio (CCAO) for 18 years, and served as its Association President in 2008 and then again in 2018. Mr. Troy was also one of Ohio’s two directors on the National Association of Counties Board of Directors.
Daniel Troy was born in Cleveland and has lived in Lake County since he was 8 years old. He is a graduate of Cleveland St. Joseph High School and the University of Dayton where he earned a degree in political science, a 45 year building trades union member, and a U.S. Army veteran. He has taught courses on state, local and national government as a part time faculty member at Lakeland Community College.
